Juvenile herring gull

Larus argentatus

The brown/grey plumage on this herring gull shows that it is only a juvenile. In fact, they don't get their smart white and grey colours until their fourth or fifth year. Juveniles also do not give the familiar "seagull" cry, but whistle instead.
